However, to speed up getting a quote, you may opt to sketch a floor plan and measure the kitchen yourself in order to get a draft design and outline costs for your new cabinetry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The designer or <a href=\"http:\/\/hikent.co.uk\/kitchen_fitting.html\">kitchen fitter<\/a> would visit and check your measurements before finalising your purchase and ordering the kitchen from the manufacturer so don&#8217;t worry about your initial attempt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You will need the following to measure your kitchen;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>A sheet of plain or graph paper<\/li><li>A tape measure, the longer tape the easier it will be to measure the room<\/li><li>A pen or pencil<\/li><li>If your kitchen is large an assistant would be useful<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Begin by drawing an outline shape of your kitchen, it does not have to be to scale but some will feel more comfortable scaling the drawing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Include doors, indicating which way they open, widows and any other fixture unique to your kitchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"382\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hikent.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/measuring-for-a-new-kitchen-installation-1.png\" alt=\"creating a floorplan to measure your kitchen\" class=\"wp-image-108\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.hikent.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/measuring-for-a-new-kitchen-installation-1.png 728w, http:\/\/www.hikent.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/measuring-for-a-new-kitchen-installation-1-300x157.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on the shape of your kitchen choose a corner or starting point and systematically work your way around the room until you are back where you started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be as accurate as you can and record the measurements of each wall or section of wall, doors including the architrave in millimetres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a good idea to measure both whole wall lengths and each component part of the wall. This can provide a useful check &#8211; added together the component part measurements should equal the whole wall length, if not you have made an error so go back and remeasure and adjust as necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your the bottom of your widows are above your existing worktop there is no need to measure their height, the width will suffice.
